Before attempting the test you should read the case and listen to the lecture podcast. All these materials are available in the modules section under the last module (scroll the page all the way down)  

SONY case assignment instructions

  1. Before the test

    • listen to the online presentation
  • It is recommended to quickly review the slides of the following lectures: organizational accident (lecture 1), organizational culture, social networks in organizations, individual and group decision making, leadership
  1. Test
  • take the online exam anytime until Nov 19th midnight.
  • The exam consists of 5 open essay questions on the case with no limitations on the number of characters. Although there are no limitations do your best to be concise (it is recommended to use around 400-500 words max for each answer, which roughly corresponds to one page of writings, single spaced, times new roman 12). However, the grade will really depends on what you write, rather than on how much you write. Also don’t be obsessed with the suggested number of words: it is ok to write more or less as long as you write interesting and well thought content.
  • You will be allowed to consult course materials during the exams but you will be required to pledge about the originality of your work following Stevens Honor system. DO NOT copy and past from third parties sources (citations are ok if you give credit): Turn it in will be used to check for plagiarism.
  1. Grading
  • You will get a maximum of 300 points for this assignment (each answer assigns 60 points), which corresponds to 30% of your final grade. Your answer will be evaluated according to the following criteria
    1. Use of theory: Ability to interpret and explain the events in the case by making reference to the theories and concepts studied in this course. It is recommended you make explicit references to authors, readings, slides and lecture materials when you quote something
    2. Correct use of the theory
    3. Evidence-based reasoning: ability to use evidence from the case and connect evidence to the theory appropriately
    4. Originality of your analysis: your ability to stretch beyond the mere application of existing theories or the materials presented in the course will be appreciated.
